The Real reason I started a New Instagram account…. Has anyone heard of “influencers”?
Who do you think of when I say “influencers” or “Fitspo”?
What comes to mind? Who comes to mind?
“The influencer Illusion had me trapped in a mental funk and kept me down from actually feeling good about myself”
Now don’t get me wrong these people are real people and all credit to them they have obviously worked very hard to get to where they are. BUT that doesn’t mean that you have to follow them.
I want you to ask yourself if they are “inspiration” or whatever where do you sit in that equation? ….. does looking at their account, increase your self-esteem? increase your self-worth?
If not then is it really worth following these people? NO
They are NOT ABOVE YOU
I thought I was doing the right thing when I found all these big names on instagram I thought it was the way to gain new information and get to my goals but I got caught in that comparison trap.
but you must always remember that…
They are not ABOVE you… they are people just like you and me, they are no different they just have a following that’s all it is… numbers. Don’t let those numbers define who you are or your self-worth.
However, that’s where I was going so wrong, (Yes I will hold my hands up and say it)
I was getting caught up in that comparison trap constantly comparing myself to these people on the internet thinking that X way was right or I had to do things a certain way. I wanted that feeling so badly, not the following but that feeling of confidence and self-acceptance but following all these big names made me even more insecure and left me feeling powerless to change it.
So after Germany, I decided to make a new account… to purposely unfollow all the big names on Instagram and I can honestly say it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Now I’m not saying to burn the bridge with Influencers but what I am saying is be mindful of the influence they are having on your life.
I know since I’ve made this new account… I have actively made steps on and offline to be so much more positive and be a doer rather than just following the latest trend… I have actually been consistent and focus on my own goals rather than wondering what (insert name) from insta is doing.
So I guess the main point of this little post is to always, always
Question yourself do their goals and values align with yours? Do they make you feel good about yourself? Question them and everything you see because we all know in a world of social media it can be so easy to edit, show highlights etc
Also ask yourself seriously if this was real life… would you surround yourself with people who affect you negatively? I hope the answer is No. So just be mindful and always put yourself, your health both mental and physical health first.
